Gas Leaks

Drew Court and Virginia West are the only SHA residential properties that use natural gas.

If you smell gas in your apartment:

  • Get yourself and everyone else out of your apartment
  • DO NOT TURN ANYTHING ON OR OFF
  • Take your phone with you, but do not use it where you smell gas
  • Alert your neighbors in the same building that there is a gas emergency-knock on their doors
  • Go at least 100 feet away from your apartment
  • Call the emergency maintenance number (256) 249-6042
  • Stay out of your apartment until it has been checked by Housing Authority Maintenance personnel

If there is gas leaking from the ground:

  • Call SHA Maintenance (256) 249-6042
  • Call 911
  • Stay away from the area and warn others
