SHA Hosts Youth Development Basketball Camp
The Sylacauga Housing Authority proudly hosted the first Youth Development Basketball Camp June 20-22nd at Verlie B. Collins Community Center. Over 40 children attended the camp and learned valuable leadership skills through the sport.
Through a partnership with Basketball Brotherhood, this three-day camp provided participants with the opportunity to learn basketball skills and develop leadership abilities. The Basketball Brotherhood’s mission is to strengthen all student-athletes’ academic status through education and life skills training. They are dedicated to improving all student-athletes’ basketball ability through skills training as well as agility, polymeric, and strength training. The camp culminated in a Family Fun Day for all participants and the Drew Court Community. Campers played in scrimmages against each other and SHA Staff and volunteers. Local vendors were set up around the gym for families to visit. Our vendors included Tempforce, Women’s Resource Center, The Alabama Department of Human Resources, and The Sylacauga Housing Authority.
The Sylacauga Housing Authority believes that investing in our children, means investment in our future. We are proud to offer these high-quality services to our residents and their families. The success of this camp would have been impossible without our partnership with Basketball Brotherhood and Deion Simms, and we are looking forward to next year!
